My life at the University of Hull

I have been in the University of Hull for four months. It is a new life in a new place. The new life is wonderful and challenging.

The wonderful life refers to that I can make a lot of friends from different area around the world and get together to learn different cultures. Besides, I can experience a quite different life style and attend various social activities.

Nevertheless, there are also some challenges at the same time. Initially, there is a challenge in language aspect. To communicate with the classmates and teachers very well, it is required high proficiency in English. Particularly, we have lectures together with the local students; the lecturer would not speak slowly in purpose to give consideration to overseas students. Therefore, it requires us to improve English as soon as possible.

Besides, the teaching style in UK is different from our country. The lecturers do not give the lecture totally based on the textbook and explain each point in it. They usually just mention the key points. The textbook is just read by ourselves after class. Additionally, there isn’t any cue or explanation of assignment would be given, just list the questions of assignment on PowerPoint. Actually, all these are a test to the basic knowledge and learning capacity of us.

Overall, Through the life experience in Hull, I think we not only need to have a good foundation of knowledge but also need to improve the ability of self-study and have an active attitude to study. I enjoy the life here which can expand my horizon and the study which is more flexible and make me improve the capability actively.

总的来说，通过在赫尔大学的生活体验，我认为我们不仅需要有扎实的专业基础知识还要不断提高自学能力，并且要有积极的学习态度。我非常享受在这儿的生活。在这里学习生活，既使我增长了见识，更为我不断提高各方面能力提供了灵活而广阔的平台。

新的生活之所以丰富精彩是因为我可以在这儿交到来自世界各地的朋友，而且能够与他们一起学习并感受不同的文化。除了这些，我还可以亲身体验完全与国内不同的生活方式并参加相关的社会活动。

同时，在赫尔大学的生活又充满了挑战性。起初，对我最大的挑战就是语言。要想与老师和学生沟通顺畅，那就要求我们就必须熟练掌握英语。在学学校，我们是与当地的学生一起在全英文的环境中上课的。老师也不会刻意去因为照顾留学生而降低语速。所以，我们必须尽快的提高自己的英语水平。

此外，英国的授课方式与中国是不一样的，英国大学的老师并不会完全依照教材讲课也不会解释每个知识点，他们通常就是讲一下重点，所以在课下我们必须仔细阅读教材。另外，老师不会针对考试做任何提示和说明，仅仅将作业的问题提供给我们。事实上，这正是对我们的基础知识和学习能力的巨大考验。
